Launched as a successor to the German mail authority Deutsche Bundespost, Deutsche Post is a private package delivery and supply chain management company. The organization is headquartered in Bonn, Germany, and is recognized as one of Europe's largest logistics solutions providers.
Until 1995, Deutsche Post was a public institution. However, on January 2, 1995, the government of Germany and KfW, the state development bank, sold a significant portion of the institution, making it a private company. As soon as the sale was successful, the company started paying more attention to its long-awaited expansion projects, the first being the acquisition of DHL International shares.
Two years later, in 2000, the company went fully private and acquired the remaining shares of DHL international in 2002. After a couple more acquisitions like that of Airborne Express, Van Gend & Loos, and Danzas, the company integrated the trio with DHL, thereby establishing DHL Express. It further went on to acquire Exel in 2005, merged GlobalUK Mail with Mercury International in 2006, and purchased StreetScooter GmbH, an electric vehicle manufacturer, in 2014 to turn around its business from a striving logistics company to a successful one.
Today Deutsche Post has a fleet of over 35,500 vehicles, all-electric, keeping in mind their contribution towards sustainability, 27,000 branches and points of sale for easy access for every customer, 59 million daily letter deliveries, 49 million daily parcel deliveries, and a large team of 150000 people in Germany and 510000 worldwide to make their operations smooth and effective.
